  • (after the Barney Theme Song, we see the clubhouse as we zoom up closer to it then Bethany and Jenna walk out with the Barney doll in Bethany's arms)
  • Jenna: Do you wanna hang out after school tomorrow, Bethany?
  • Bethany: I'd like to, but I have piano lessons after school tomorrow!
  • Jenna: I didn't know you took piano lessons!
  • Bethany: Sure I do! It's really fun!
  • (a song on the guitar is heard)
  • Bethany: What was that?
  • Jenna: It sounds like someone's playing the guitar! *looks around* Look!
  • (the girls walk over to where Noah is sitting on the Idea Bench playing his guitar)
  • Girls: Hi Noah!
  • Noah: Hi guys!
  • Bethany: Practicing for guitar lessons, huh?
  • Noah: Yep! You guys wanna hear a song I learned in guitar lessons the other day?
  • Girls: Sure!
  • (music starts for "Kookabura")
  • (Bethany sets down the Barney doll)
  • Noah: Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree, Merry, merry, king of the bush is he. Laugh, kookabura, laugh. Kookabura, gay your life must be!
  • Bethany: Kookabura sits in the old gum tree, eating all the gumdrops he can see!
  • Jenna: Stop, kookabura, stop, kookabura, leave some there for me!
  • Kids: Kookabura sits in the old gum tree, Merry, merry, king of the bush is he. Laugh, kookabura, laugh. Kookabura, gay your life must be! Kookabura sits in the old gum tree, eating all the gumdrops he can see! Stop, kookabura, stop, kookabura, leave some there for me!
  • Girls: *both clapping* YAY!!
  • (the Barney doll comes to life)
  • Barney: Whoa! Hi everybody!
  • Kids: Barney!
  • Barney: Hi there! Noah, that was stu-u-u-pendous!
  • Noah: Thanks, Barney! I learned that song in my guitar lessons the other day!
  • Barney: And I can tell that you've been practicing a lot! Like they say, practice makes music! *chuckles*
  • Bethany: I take piano lessons, Barney! And I have a lot of fun doing it! I know how to read the notes and I know how to play some songs!
  • Jenna: I'd like to play a musical instrument someday, but I don't know if I'd be good enough!
  • Barney: That's OK, Jenna! Nobody gets anything right the very first time!
  • Noah: Yeah! At my first guitar lesson, my teacher asked me to play a song. It took me forever to learn how to play it, but soon, I got it!
  • Bethany: And at my piano recital, I thought I would mess something up, but I ended up playing a song with no mistakes.
  • Jenna: Thanks, guys!
  • Barney: I'm sure you would make a great musician, Jenna!
  • (music starts for "Music is for Everyone")
  • Barney: If you clap your hands and stamp your feet, you started making music, 'cause you started a beat! Maybe play a kazoo, it's so much fun. Music is for everyone.
  • All: Music is great and it's everywhere! It'll make you smile as it fills the air! You can make music, yes it's lots of fun! Music is for everyone!
  • Jenna: Blow into a trumpet or a slide trombone!
  • Bethany: Maybe play a tuba, or a sousaphone!
  • Noah: You can play the cymbals or a big bass drum!
  • Barney: Music is for everyone!
  • All: Music is great and it's everywhere! It'll make you smile as it fills the air! You can make music, yes it's lots of fun! Music is for everyone! Music is great and it's everywhere! It'll make you smile as it fills the air! You can make music, yes it's lots of fun! Music is for everyone!
  • (music ends)
  • (a few musical instruments are heard)
  • Noah: What was that?
  • Jenna: I don't know!
  • (same sound is heard again)
  • Bethany: It sounds like it's coming from inside the clubhouse!
  • Barney: Let's go see!
  • (everyone enters the clubhouse, then we fade to the group entering the music room)
  • Barney: Look! It's..
  • All: Riff!
  • Riff: Oh, hi Barney! Hi everybody!
  • Barney & Kids: Hi Riff!
  • Barney: What are you doing, Riff?
  • Riff: I'm practicing some songs I'm gonna be performing in a concert tonight!
  • (kids adlibing)
  • Barney: Oh boy! How exciting!
  • Riff: I've been waiting for this day to come forever! I've alway's wanted to perform music in a show for lots of people! I love music and I hear it everywhere!
  • Barney: I know you do! *chuckles*
  • (music starts for "I Hear Music Eveywhere")
  • Riff: Music's alway's inside my head. Yes, all day long till I go to bed! I hear the wind in the breeze, the buzzing of the bees, the rumble of the train, the pitter patter of the rain! Can you hear it? Listen up! I hear music everywhere! Whoa, wowzer!
  • All: Everybody, can you hear it?
  • Riff: Sha-Pop-Pow! It's the sound that fills the air!
  • All: Yes, I hear music everywhere!
  • Riff: If you listen, you'll hear the sound! The sound of music is all around! I hear the birds sing a song in the daylight, then the frogs and the crickets play the rhythm of the night!
  • All: Can you hear it?
  • Riff: Listen up! I hear music everywhere! Whoa, wowzer!
  • All: Everybody, can you hear it?
  • Riff: Sha-Pop-Pow! It's the sound that fills the air!
  • All: Yes, I hear music everywhere!
  • (music ends)
  • (all adlibing)
  • Bethany: You're a great musician, Riff!
  • Riff: Aw, thanks! I'm very excited to perform in the concert tonight!
  • Barney: What instrument are you gonna play?
  • Riff: I'm gonna play all of these instruments! I'm gonna be a one dino band! *chuckles*
  • Barney: Oh my!
  • Riff: Would you like me to perform a song I'll be doing in the concert?
  • (all adlibing)
  • Riff: Great! This song has a boppity-bopping beat!
  • (music starts for "Mr. Knickerbocker")
  • All: Hey, Mr. Knickerbocker, boppity bop! I like-a the way that you boppity bop! I like-a the way that you boppity bop with your hands! *everyone claps hands to rhythm two times* Hey Mr. Knickerbocker, boppity bop! I like-a the way that you boppity bop! I like-a the way that you boppity bop with your mouth! *everyone taps cheeks to rhythm* Yeah! Hey Mr. Knickerbocker, boppity bop! I like-a the way that you boppity bop! Hey Mr. Knickerbocker, boppity bop! I like-a the way that you boppity bop! Hey, Mr. Knickerbocker, boppity bop! I like-a the way that you boppity bop! Hey Mr. Knickerbocker, boppity bop! I like-a the way that you boppity bop!
  • (music ends)
  • Barney: That was super-dee-duper, Riff!
  • Riff: Thanks, Barney!
  • Bethany: Riff, can you please play another song for us?
  • (kids adlibb)
  • Riff: Well.....OK!! For the next song I'll be playing at the concert, I'll be playing these! *gets out a metal can, a bottle, and a seashell*
  • Noah: But Riff, those aren't musical instruments!
  • Riff: They aren't, but watch this! If you turn this metal can upside down, you can pat on it like its a drum. *turns the can upside down then pats it* Or you could blow into this bottle, and pretend that it's a flute. *blows into the bottle which makes the flute sound*
  • Noah: That gives me an idea! Let's make some musical instruments of our own!
  • Jenna: And we could decorate them, too!
  • Barney: Sure! This sounds like a job for... *his magic makes The Barney Bag appear*
  • All (except Barney): The Barney Bag!
  • Barney: Right!
  • (music starts for "The Barney Bag")
  • Barney: Oh, I've been lookin' in my Barney Bag and I found a lot of things! Gizmos and gadgets and odds and ends, and even some old string!
  • All (except Barney): So let's ask ourselves the question: "What can we make today?" With imagination and the Barney Bag, we'll see what we can make today, yeah! See what we can make today!
  • (music ends)
  • Jenna: Looks like we do have enough stuff to make homemade instruments! Oh, I almost forgot! *pulls a book out of her backpack* I got this book just the other day for my little brother! Would you read to us while we make the instruments, Barney?
  • Barney: Oh, I'd be delighted to! *opens up the book*
  • (we fade to Barney holding the book on the stage with a background of musical notes)
  • Barney: Once upon a time, there was an elephant named Emmit who lived in the jungle. *curtains open as we see Bethany dressed as a pink elephant* One day, Emmit was sad because she couldn't make music. Every time she tried, all she could do was make a loud noise with her truck!
  • (Riff plays a trumpet to fit with the story)
  • Barney: One of Emmit's friends, Bernard the Bird, could sing beautiful songs all day long.
  • (Noah comes out as the Bird)
  • (Riff plays a flute to fit with the story)
  • Barney: And Heather the Hippo loved making music, too.
  • (Jenna comes out as the hippo)
  • (Riff plays a violin to fit with the story)
  • Noah: *as Bernard* Emmit, we're starting a band. Wanna join it with us?
  • Bethany: *as Emmit* I can't play music! All I can do is make a loud noise with my trunk!
  • (Riff plays the trumpet)
  • Jenna: *as Heather* That's very good!
  • Bethany: Thanks!
  • Noah: Would you still like to join the band?
  • Bethany: Of course!
  • (they each get a musical instrument then play a 20 second riff)
  • (fades to everyone back in the art room with no costumes on)
  • Barney: And they all lived happily ever after. The end.
  • (Riff and kids cheer)
  • Barney: It looks like everyone is done with their instruments!
  • (all adlibing)
  • Jenna: Check it out! I took two cups, added rice, tapped the cups together, and I got a shaker! *shakes it*
  • Bethany: And I took this bottle, covered it in silver construction paper, and now it's flute! *blows into bottle*
  • Noah: And I found a metal can, painted it blue and red, and now it's a drum! *bangs on can*
  • Riff: And look at this seashell! If you blow into it like this, it sounds like a horn! *blows into shell*
  • Barney: You've all made stu-u-u-pendous instruments!
  • All (except Barney): Thank you, Barney!
  • (music starts for "You Can Make Music with Anything")
  • Noah: Take a metal can, turn it upside down, pound on it like it's a drum! Listen to the sound! *pounds on can*
  • Jenna: You can take two cups, add a little rice, put 'em together and shake, shake, shake! Now doesn't that sound nice? *shakes it*
  • All: Anything, anything! You can make music with anything! Anything, anything, you can make music with anything!
  • Bethany: A little glass bottle, you can play it like a flute! When you blow across the top, it plays a toot, toot, toot! *blows into bottle*
  • Riff: How about a horn? Take a big seashell! If you blow into one end, it's a trumpet as you can tell! Everybody now!
  • (the riff plays of the pounding on the can, shaking the shaker, blowing into the bottle, and blowing in the shell two times)
  • All: Oh, anything, anything! You can make music with anything! Anything, anything! You can make music with anything! You can make music with anything!
  • (music ends)
  • (fades to everyone walking down the stairs and Riff and the kids sit on the couch)
  • Bethany: Hey guys, check out this book I got at the school library the other day! *gets a book about Beethoven*
  • Riff: Wowzer! It's a book all about Beethoven! One of the greatest composers of all time!
  • Barney: Well, I know a way we can learn more about Beethoven! *uses his magic to turn on Adventure Screen*
  • All (except Barney): The Adventure Screen!
  • Barney: A long time ago, there was a man named Ludwig Van Beethoven! He was a composer who wrote teriffic songs and played them on the piano!
  • (we hear a song being performed by Beethoven)
  • Barney: But there was one problem: Beethoven couldn't hear the music! Even though he couldn't hear, he loved music and he loved performing on the piano! *his magic turns off The Adventure Screen*
  • Noah: That was great, Barney!
  • Barney: Thank you!
  • Riff: Come on, guys! Let's go back up to the music room!
  • (everyone goes back upstairs then fades to everyone entering the music room)
  • Bethany: The other day, my parents got me this metronome to help me a little bit more with my piano lessons!
  • Riff: What does a metronome do?
  • Barney: A metronome is used to help musicians keep in rhythm! Like this! *turns on metronome and sways back and forth, starting a rhythm*
  • (everyone sways back and forth to the beat of the metronome)
  • (music starts for "The Clapping Song")
  • Barney: Now that we're in rhythm, let's play a clapping game! This is a song and a clapping game, it's so much fun to play! You can do it with a group, you can do it by yourself, you can do it most every day! Just listen now! *claps to rhythm* Have you got it? *claps to rhythm*
  • Riff: Now it's going to be your turn to try the clapping part! You can do it real loud, you can do it real soft, but get ready, 'cause we're going to start! Here we go now!
  • (everyone claps to rhythm)
  • Riff: Once more now!
  • (everyone claps to rhythm)
  • Barney: The good thing about this clapping is that the rhythm will never, never change! But the things we're about to clap on may seem a little strange! On your stomach now!
  • (everyone pats tummys to rhythm)
  • Barney: On your shoulders!
  • (everyone taps shoulders to rhythm)
  • Riff: The good thing about this clapping is that the rhythm will never, never change! But the things we're about to clap on may seem a little strange! On your knees now!
  • (everyone pats knees to rhythm)
  • Riff: On your hips now!
  • (everyone taps hips to rhythm)
  • Barney & Riff: Here is the end of the clapping song, it's sung in many lands! Just to make us feel good on the very last time, everybody clap with your hands! Here we go now!
  • (everyone claps hands to rhythm)
  • Barney & Riff: Last time now!
  • (everyone claps hands to rhythm)
  • All: Yeah!
  • (music ends)
  • Jenna: That was fun!
  • Barney: It was!
  • Riff: Hey guys, do you wanna hear another song I'm gonna do at the concert?
  • All (except Riff): Sure!
  • Riff: OK! I'm gonna be doing it on the chello!
  • Noah: It looks kind of like a violin!
  • Riff: It does, Noah! Except when you play it, it has a deeper sound, like this! *takes bow and plays it* Now I'm gonna warn you, I'm not doing very well with this song!
  • (he tries playing London Bridge, but fails right near the end)
  • Riff: Aw, man!
  • Barney: That sounded good to me, Riff!
  • Riff: Well I do know how to play it, I just can't do the ending! Well, here I go again!
  • (he tries again, but fails at the same exact same spot)
  • Barney: Don't give up yet, Riff! Some things take time to get right the very first try!
  • Riff: But Barney, I've been practicing every day, but I still can't do it! *leaves the room*
  • (fades to Riff walking towards the Idea Bench outside and sits down)
  • Riff: I should've known I couldn't do it! Why can't I do anything right?
  • (music starts for "Why Can't I?")
  • Riff: At times, I feel like I just don't belong and I never get anything right! Doing my best doesn't seem good enough, no matter how hard I try! Will I ever be able to reach for the sky? Will I get things wrong for the rest of my life? I see other kids and they get it all right, so why can't I? *sighs*
  • (walks over toward the pond)
  • Riff: What if I don't know an answer? What if I don't know the way? Will someone laugh or make fun of me? What will the other kids say?
  • (we see Barney exit the clubhouse)
  • Riff: Will I ever be able to reach for the sky? Will I get things wrong for the rest of my life? I see other kids and they get it all right! So why can't I? So why can't I?
  • (we see Riff's reflection in the pond then we see Barney's reflection as he comes to Riff)
  • (music ends)
  • Barney: Riff?
  • Riff: Oh, hey Barney! What are you doing out here?
  • Barney: I came to check on you! Are you OK?
  • Riff: I guess so. I was just upset about not playing that song perfectly!
  • Barney: Well, that's not the only song you'll be playing the concert, right?
  • Riff: Right! But I was hoping to include that song in the concert!
  • Barney: Well, the best thing you can do is to try and try again.
  • (music starts for "Try and Try Again")
  • Barney: If you can't do it the first time, try and try again. If you can't do it the second time, don't give up, my friend! 'Cause your gonna do it sometime, and you'll be so happy then! So try and try, try and try again! See the pretty birdy way up in the sky? When he was just a little bird, he didn't know how to fly! He watched his mommy flap her wings and soar so high! She told him, "You can do it if you try."
  • (music ends)
  • Riff: Your right, Barney! I think I will try again!
  • Barney: Great! And I think I have an idea that will help you! *whispers the idea in Riff's ear*
  • Riff: That's a tippity-top idea! Come on! Let's go!
  • Barney: OK!
  • (the two go back in the clubhouse then fades to them entering the music room)
  • Barney: Everyone, Riff would like to try playing for us again!
  • (kids adlib)
  • Barney: But before he does, there's something I better do! *his magic makes a tuxedo appear on himself* Are you ready, Riff?
  • Riff: Ready, Barney!
  • (Barney conducts Riff to play London Bridge and he successfully does it)
  • Barney: OK, everybody! Let's sing along this time!
  • (music starts for "London Bridge")
  • All: London bridge is falling down, falling down, falling down! London bridge is falling down, my fair lady!
  • (music ends)
  • (an audience cheering sound effect is heard then the tuxedo magically appears off of Barney)
  • Riff: I did it, Barney! I really did it!
  • (kids adlibing)
  • Barney: That was super-dee-duper, Riff! I just knew you could do it! Do you know why?
  • Riff: Why?
  • Barney: Because you never gave up, and you practiced until you got it right!
  • Riff: Yeah, I did!
  • Bethany: Good luck at the concert tonight, Riff!
  • Noah: Yeah! And have fun!
  • Riff: Thanks! Well, I better get going! Bye, guys!
  • Barney & Kids: Bye Riff!
  • (Riff leaves then he disappears)
  • Jenna: I know Riff will be great at the concert tonight!
  • (kids adlibing)
  • (music starts for "I Love You")
  • Barney: Me too, because he'll be playing music from his heart! I love you, you love me. We're a happy family. With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you, won't you say you love me too?
  • All: I love you, you love me. We're best friends like friends should be. With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you, won't you say you love me too?
  • (music ends)
  • Jenna: Well we better get going, Barney!
  • Noah: Yeah, thanks for all the fun today!
  • Barney: You're welcome! Bye, everyone!
  • Kids: Bye Barney!
  • (the kids exit the music room then we zoom over to the Barney doll wearing a tuxedo standing next to a miniature drumset then the doll winks)
