  • Bethany: *reveals herself dressed like a dancer* How do I look?
  • Jimmy: *dressed like a cowboy* Like your ready to dance! Look at me, I'm a cowboy! Howdy, partners! Yee-haw!
  • Priscilla: *dressed like a scuba-diver* Check this out! I'm a scuba-diver!
  • (the other two kids adlib "Wow, cool!" or "Great costume!")
  • Priscilla: Thanks!
  • Jimmy: *picks up a crown from the wardrobe* Here, Barney! You should get a chance to play pretend, too! *places the crown on the doll's head that is sitting on the stage*
  • Bethany: We now crown you, King Barney! *bows down*
  • Priscilla: Oh yes, King Barney!
  • (the Barney doll comes to life)
  • Barney: Whoa!
  • Kids: Barney!
  • (the climb up the stairs to the stage to hug Barney)
  • Barney: Hi everybody! Oh look, your all dressed up! Those are some great costumes!
  • Kids: Thanks!
  • Jimmy: I'm a cowboy!
  • Priscilla: I'm a scuba-diver!
  • Bethany: And I'm a dancer!
  • Jimmy: Do you like the crown that your wearing, Barney?
  • Barney: Well, let me see. *walks down the stage stairs and looks into a mirror* Oh look, I have an itsy, bitsy, teeney, tiny crown on!
  • Bethany: These costumes are great!
  • Barney: They sure are! Say, let's have a parade of costumes!
  • Kids: Yeah!
  • (music starts for "A Big Parade of Costumes")
  • All: A big parade of costumes is coming your way! It's so much fun, it kind of makes me want to say: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10." Yes, costumes can be fun, no matter where or when!
  • Jimmy: You can wear a cowboy hat, swing a rope in the air!
  • Barney: Pretend to be a king, with a crown that you wear!
  • Bethany: You can be a ballerina, that's always fun!
  • Barney: The big parade of costumes is for everyone!
  • All: A big parade of costumes is coming your way! It's so much fun, it kind of makes me want to say: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10." Yes, costumes can be fun, no matter where or when!
  • (fades to the kids wearing new costumes)
  • Bethany: *wearing a Raggedy Ann doll costume* You can be your favorite rag doll and play the whole day through!
  • Bethany: *wearing an airplane pilot uniform* Or you can be a pilot flying in the sky so blue!
  • Jimmy: *wearing a scarecrow costume* Or you can be a scarecrow dancing in a field!
  • Barney: Or be a might king, with a royal shield!
  • All: A big parade of costumes is coming your way! It's so much fun, it kind of makes me want to say: "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10." Yes, costumes can be fun, no matter where or when!
  • (music ends)
  • Jimmy: Oh my goodness, I almost forgot!
  • Girls: What?
  • Jimmy: We're suppose to be practicing for the school play!
  • Priscilla: Oh, your right, Jimmy!
  • (they all walk down the stage stairs as they begin taking off their costumes)
  • Barney: Your gonna be in a play?
  • Bethany: That's right! We're very excited to be in it!
  • Barney: Well, no matter if your performing magic tricks, or making music, or dancing, it must be fun being in the spotlight!
  • (lights dim as a spotlight appears on Barney)
  • (music starts for "What If You Could Be in the Spotlight?")
  • Barney: What if you could be in the spotlight? What would you want to do? Pick any job in the spotlight, anything that looks fun to you!
  • Jimmy: If I could be an actor, a superhero I would be! I would rescue people in trouble, with super powers naturally!
  • Barney: What if you could be a musician? What would you want to play? Pick any musical instrument, to make a happy sound every day!
  • Priscilla: If I could be a musician, I think I'd like to play the drums! The small one sounds like "rat-a-tat-tat" while the big ones sound like "bum-bum-bum-bum."
  • Barney: What if you could be a magician? And put on a magic show? Up on the stage in the spotlight! Are there any tricks that you know?
  • Bethany: If I could be a magician, I'd pull a rabbit out of my hat! The people would be so very surprised and ask me, "How did you do that?"
  • Barney: What if you could be just anything? What would you want to do? Make a wish and imagine! Anything that looks fun to you! What if you could be just anything? Anything!
  • (music ends)
  • (audience cheering sound effect is heard)
  • (fades to the kids putting their costumes back in the wardrobe)
  • Jimmy: I wonder where Brandon is today?
  • Bethany: Yeah, he's in the school play with us!
  • Priscilla: And he said he'd be here today to help us practice!
  • (Brandon enters the set)
  • Brandon: Hey guys, sorry I'm late.
  • All (except Brandon): Hey Brandon!
  • Brandon: Did you guys start practicing without me?
  • Bethany: Nope, we were waiting for you to get here!
  • Brandon: *sad now* Oh, gee. Thanks, guys. *leaves*
  • Priscilla: Why does Brandon seem sad all of a sudenn?
  • Bethany: I don't know.
  • Barney: Maybe I better go check on him. I'll see you in a little while.
  • (Barney leaves the set)
  • Kids: OK. See you later, Barney.
  • Priscilla: Maybe we should practicing before too long.
  • (the other two kids agree as they walk up the stage steps then fades to Brandon sitting downstairs, sad)
  • (Barney arrives)
  • Barney: Is everything OK, Brandon?
  • Brandon: Not really.
  • Barney: Oh, what's wrong?
  • Brandon: Well...the thing is...I don't want to be in the school play anymore.
  • Barney: Oh? Why not?
  • Brandon: Well...it's because I'm nervous about it. There are gonna be a lot of people watching the play. That's what makes me nervous about it.
  • Barney: Oh, I see. Sometimes, it's scary being on stage. But maybe you might like it.
  • Brandon: Oh, I don't know.
  • (music starts for "You Might Like Something New")
  • Barney: Would you like to skate? Give it a try! Don't hesitate, me oh my! Give it a try, and when you're done, you might find out you had some fun! When you try to do something new, you might be surprised at what you like to do! Do-di-do-di-do, you might like something new! New food on your plate, give it a try! Time for a taste, me oh my! Give it a try and at the end, you might even try it again! When you try to do something new, you might be surprised at what you like to do! Do-di-do-di-do, you might like something new! A new game to play, give it a try! A new word to say, me oh my! Give it a try, and when you're done, you might find out you had some fun!

  • Brandon: Maybe I will like performing on stage, Barney. But I'm still nervous about it.
  • (kids come downstairs as they greet Barney and Brandon)
  • Bethany: Is everything OK, Brandon?
  • Barney: Brandon is nervous about performing in the school play.
  • Brandon: Yeah, I have stage fright.
  • Priscilla: It's OK, Brandon. I felt the nmsame way in my first dance recital. I was nervous about dancing in front of lots of people, but I felt better because I wasn't the only one on stage.
  • Jimmy: And when I moved to this neighborhood. I had to go to a new school, and didn't have any new friends. But then, I got the hang of it and I made new friends.
  • Barney: You see, Brandon? Everyone tries new things, including animals.
  • Kids: Animals?
  • Barney: Well, sure! Let me show you what I mean! *his magic turns on The Adventure Screen*
  • Kids: The Adventure Screen!
  • Barney: See this baby duck? He didn't know how to swim. Everyday, the baby duck watched his mother swim, and after some practice, he could swim in the pond with his family. This baby bird couldn't fly. Everytime he flapped his wings, he flew a little bit higher everyday, until he could fly perfectly. Oh, and look at this kangaroo. He couldn't alway's hop, but with a little practice, he could hop as much as he wanted to! So you see? Even our animal friends learn new things every day. *his magic turns off the Adventure Screen*
  • Priscilla: Did you see that kangaroo? He could really hop, hop, hop!
  • (all agree as they go outside)
  • (music starts for "The Hopping Song")
  • (fades to the cast outside)
  • Barney: Way down under lives a kangaroo. He takes much bigger hops than the others do! He bends down low and jumps up high, now pretend that you're a kangaroo bouncing by!
  • All: And hop, hop, hop, hippity hop! It's so much fun, you just can't stop. Hop, hop, hippity hop! Everybody's happy when they hop!
  • Barney: Did you ever see a little baby bunny run? The way he gets around is a lot of fun. He bends down low and jumps up high, now pretend that you're a bunny bouncing by!
  • All: And hop, hop, hop, hippity hop! It's so much fun, you just can't stop. Hop, hop, hippity hop! Everybody's happy when they hop!
  • Barney: A fat green frog on a brigtt blue day, doesn't need fancy toys to play! He bends down low and jumps up high, now pretend that your a froggy bouncing by!
  • All: And hop, hop, hop, hippity hop! It's so much fun, you just can't stop. Hop, hop, hippity hop! Everybody's happy when they hop, hop, hop! Everybody's happy whnn they hop!
  • (music ends)
  • (fades to the group entering the clubhouse)
  • Bethany: Barney?
  • Barney: Yes Bethany?
  • Bethany: I'm actually learning to do something new right now! *pulls out a book in her backpack* This is a book all about making arts and crafts! There's something new in this book that I'm trying to make, and it's right here! *finds the page with melted crayons glued to a canvas with the melted crayons dripping down*
  • Jimmy: Hey, I've done a project like that in my art class before!
  • Priscilla: That would be a cool project to do, Bethany!
  • Brandon: Yeah, now I'd like to make something like that!
  • Barney: Well, maybe you can. All we need is a little help from... *his magic makes the Barney Bag appear on the coffee table*
  • Kids: The Barney Bag!
  • (Brandon picks up the Barney Bag, then everyone goes upstairs and fades to them entering the art room as they start looking through the Barney Bag)
  • (music starts for "The Barney Bag")
  • Barney: Oh, I've been looking in my Barney Bag, and I found a lot of things! Gizmos and gadgets and odds and ends, and even some old strings!
  • Kids: So let's ask ourselves the question: "What can we make today?" With imagination and the Barney Bag, we'll see what we can make today, yeah! See what we can make today!
  • (music ends)
  • Bethany: The instructions say that first, we'll need a canvas! Does everyone have one?
  • Kids (except Bethany): Yep!
  • Bethany: Now we have to superglue the crayons of your choice to the top of the canvas, but you should have a grownup around, because superglue is hot!
  • (each of the kids take the crayons they want and shows a mini montage of them super gluing the crayons to their canvases, with help from Barney)
  • Bethany: Next, use a hair dryer to melt the crayons!
  • (another mini montage plays as the kids use hair dryers to melt the crayons, then the melted crayons drip down on the canvas)
  • Bethany: And it says we're done!
  • Barney: Oh, they look super-dee-duper! Their very colorful!
  • Bethany: That was a fun project to do!
  • (the other kids agree)
  • Barney: And Bethany, you learned to do something new today!
  • Bethany: Oh yeah! I guess your right!
  • Jimmy: I'll be trying something new soon, too! I'll be taking a Spanish class in school soon!
  • Barney: Oh, so you'll be learning a new language soon?
  • Jimmy: That's right! I already know some words in a Spanish, but I want to know more so I can be prepared for my Spanish class!
  • Barney: OK, Jimmy!
  • (music starts for "Languages from All Around the World")
  • Barney: if I want to say hello, I say "hola"
  • Kids: Hola!
  • Barney: To call out to my friends, I say "amigo"
  • Kids: Amigo!
  • Barney: When I talk about a girl, she's a "nina"
  • Kids: Nina!
  • Barney: And the boys we know are all called "chico"
  • Kids: Chico!
  • All: There are many different ways to say the things we want to say, using languages from all around the world!
  • Barney: If I want to use my manners, I say "por favor"
  • Kids: Por favor!
  • Barney: To count to three, "uno, dos, tres"
  • Kids: Uno, dos, tres!
  • Girls: In my house, we have a "gato" and a "perro"
  • Boys: Gato, perro!
  • Girls: The hat on my head is a sombrero!
  • Boys: Sombrero!
  • All: There are many different ways to say the things we want to say, using languages from all around the world! It's fun to learn new words to help us make new friends, using languages from all around the world!

  • (fades to Barney and the kids entering the theater)
  • Barney: So Brandon, do you think you'd like to try performing on stage for us?
  • Brandon: What? Well, I'll try.
  • Barney: Oh, good.
  • Jimmy: You can do it, Brandon!
  • Priscilla: Yeah, you'll be great!
  • Brandon: Thanks! *walks up the stage steps* *clears throat* Hi, I'm Brandon, and I really like playing games, like basketball, and tag, and some of my favorite foods are pizza and...aw man. *walks down the stage steps* Barney, I still don't know about this!
  • Barney: It's okay, Brandon. The best thing you can do is to try and try again!
  • (music starts for "Try and Try Again")
  • All (except Brandon): If you can't do it the first time, try and try again. If you can't do it the second time, don't give up, my friend. 'Cause your gonna do it sometime, and you will be so happy then! So try and try, try and try again!
  • Barney: See the pretty birdy way up in the sky? When he was just a little bird, he didn't know how to fly! He watched his mommy flap her wings and soar so high. She told him, "you can do it, if you try."
  • All (except Brandon): If you can't do it the first time, try and try again. If you can't do it the second time, don't give up, my friend. 'Cause your gonna do it sometime, and you will be so happy then! So try and try, try and try again! So try and try, try and try again!
  • (music ends)
  • Brandon: You guys are right! I think I will try again!
  • Barney: That's great to hear, Brandon! In fact, I have an idea! *whispers the idea in Brandon's ear then he and Brandon walk up the stage steps* *clears throat* Ladies and gentlemen, girls and boys, presenting two people who can really do some happy dancing in their shoes... *chuckles* Me.
  • Brandon: And me.
  • (Barney does magic as he and Brandon wear top hats, dancing shoes, and tuxedos, and the lights turn off as a spotlight is on the two)
  • Barney: Are you ready, Brandon?
  • (music starts for "Happy Dancin'")
  • Brandon: Happy dancin' in my shoes.
  • Barney: Helps me chase away the blues.
  • Brandon: Makes me feel just like I may.
  • Barney & Brandon: Go happy dancin' all day! Happy dancin' all day!
  • (Barney does a dance solo, then Brandon does one)
  • Barney & Brandon: Happy dancin' in my shoes, helps me chase away the blues. Makes me feel just like I may, go happy dancin' all day! Happy dancin' all day!
  • (Brandon does a dance solo)
  • (music ends)
  • (kids cheer as lights come back on)
  • Priscilla: That was great!
  • (Barney and Brandon are now out of their uniforms)
  • Barney: Thank you, everyone! You did a stu-u-u-pendous job, Brandon!
  • Brandon: Thanks, Barney! Your a great dance partner!
  • Barney: You too!
  • Brandon: And you know what? I don't have stage fright anymore!
  • (all adlib)
  • Barney: That's tee-riffic! You see? Trying new things is fun, isn't it?
  • Brandon: Your right, Barney! I did something new!
  • (music starts for "Today, We Can Say!")
  • Brandon: Hey, hey, hey! I learned something new today! Hip, hip, hooray! I learned something new today!
  • Barney: Today we can say, we learned a word that's new, today we can say we saw a pretty bird that's blue, today we made some friends we really like, and today we learned to fly a big red kite!
  • (the kids get on stage with Barney and Brandon)
  • All: Hey, hey, hey! We learned something new today! Hip, hip, hooray! We learned something new today!
  • Priscilla: Today, we can say we learned the colors of the rainbow!
  • Jimmy: Today, in the car, we learned to buckle up when we go!
  • Bethany: Today, we smelled some sweet smelling flowers!
  • Brandon: And today, we learned about telling time, the minutes and the hours!
  • All: Hey, hey, hey! We learned something new today! Hip, hip, hooray! We learned something new today!
  • (music slows down)
  • Barney: Hey, hey, hey! We learned something new today, that's right! I'm so glad to say, I learned with you today!
  • (Barney and Brandon share a hug)
  • (music ends)
  • Jimmy: We're glad your over your stage fright, Brandon!
  • Priscilla: Yeah, we wanted you to be in the play with us!
  • Brandon: Well, if it weren't for you guys, I would still have stage fright! I feel so lucky that I have friends like you!
  • (music starts for "I Love You")
  • Barney: And I feel lucky that each and every one of you are my friends! I love you, you love me. We're a happy family. With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you, won't you say you love me too?

  • Bethany: Let's practice for the play!
  • Kids (except Bethany): Yeah!
  • (all adlib as they go to the wardrobe to get their costumes, but Brandon stops and walks over to the stage to where the Barney doll is, wearing the bowtie, tuxedo, and dancing shoes)
  • Brandon: Thanks again, Barney! *pats the doll on the head*
  • (Brandon leaves to join the other kids then the doll winks)
